Most fashion shows feature flowing silks and rich velvets, but not Fleurotica. The artists behind its 18 distinct looks opt for a more organic medium: botanicals. They combine plants, flowers, and other natural materials to craft cutting-edge pieces of fashion that models will wear down the runway at the Garfield Park Conservatory on Friday, October 18th.
The folks behind the evening’s unique garments aren’t your average fashion designers, of course. They’re floral artists, students, and landscape designers from Chicago-area businesses and organizations, from the Chalet Nursery to Northwestern University’s Plant Biology and Conservation Program. Come to the Garfield Park Conservatory at 6:30 p.m. on the 18th to enjoy some cocktails and small bites before the show, and then settle in to watch models strut down the catwalk wearing the plant-based pieces. Tickets are $175 and benefit the work of the Garfield Park Conservatory.
